Frequently Asked Questions
In most cases, yes, chiro care is covered under health insurance to some degree. However, you need to check directly with your health insurance provider to confirm. Some of their healthcare plans may include chiro treatment while others may not. Your insurance provider most likely also has limits on the total chiro expenses that can be claimed per year.
As an example, in their plan comparison chart, Southern Cross includes chiro therapy coverage in their UltraCare Plan. More specifically, this covers $60 per adjustment and up to $300 of claims per year. Therefore, if your chiro charges more than $60 per session, you will need to pay the difference.
Another healthcare provider that offers chiro coverage is nib. They offer 60% coverage per session for up to $350 of claims a year under their Standard Everyday cover.ย Alternatively, 80% coverage per session for up to $500 of claims a year under their Premium Everyday cover.ย
Unimed is another provider that covers chiro sessions under their Health Positive plan. This covers expenses of up to $300 per annum with a stand-down period of 3 months between sessions.ย
Other health insurance providers in NZ are:
- AIA
- LifeDirect
- Accuro
